My suggestion would be to not believe most anything the $%^#* media says and enjoy whatever local seafood you can get, and there will be plenty to choose from.

You and your wife will have a GREAT time, I guarantee it!

There are occasions when playing the opponents fight song is right and there are times that it doesn't work.

An example of when it works and when it is good is at Nebraska or Texas. If a team goes into Nebraska or Texas and they don't take their band with them, the Nebraska and/or Texas band will learn the fight song and play it before and after the game. It is done for respect for those opposing fans that came to the game.

Other than that, I can't imagine that it is really that good of a thing. At our tailgate, I wouldn't ever want to hear Boomer Sooner or any other song played.

One thing that is kind of neat though is if there is a song that isn't the fight song that the opponent might do something with to play that. For example, our group of 150+ LOVES Sweet Caroline by Neil Diamond. I don't know how it happened, but we've changed it some and act dorky and just have a hell of a lot of fun with it. The other is the song that used to be played (and should still be played) following every home game. Toby Keith's "Shoulda Been a Cowboy" used to always be played. Of course he's the typical Sooner fan (meaning that he has mad love for the school but he never once stepped foot in an OU classroom) and it upset him that his song was played for OSU. For a couple years it was played I believe out of spite and then they stopped. But it is still among the most requested items in the athletic department.

So official fight song for tailgates: No. Played by the band as a proxy and out of respect: Yes Playing other songs that may have some attachment to the fans but aren't official: Sure.

I didn't tell you. One of my best friends is on his way back from Afghanistan inside of a month. So we've got him and his girl a room and he's coming down with us. He has family in the area (20 miles South of Lafayette is what he said) so he's really excited.

I know he'll be treated with the respect that he deserves even though he'll be wearing orange.

You'll have to give us a little more background on this fine young man. Who's the family, etc. Quite a few of us are from that part of God's Country.

I'll get the info from him as I can. I know his name, but I'm not sure what family or town names are. Until I ask him, I'd hate to give out anything indicative of him.

He's a guy with an interesting story. He always wanted to join the Army but due to family issues, he never did. Then when he turned 37, he thought the window had closed. He turned 41 and a friend of his the same age enlisted. Come to find out they changed the age up to 42. He took it as a sign from God and he went in and enlisted. He's about to finish his first one year tour in the war zone. Hopefully he doesn't have to go back in a year. His age has been a blessing for him as far as promotions. He just was promoted to E5 and has a chance for Warrant Officer training all within his first 3 years of service.

Just two weeks before we'll be down there enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of game day!

I really can't wait. I'm trying to figure out where I should plan on stopping on my way down from SW Missouri.

Oh and by the way, my buddy that is coming down with me (Rich Oliver) had his welcome home ceremony on Monday. It is good having him back here from Afghanistan. He and his girlfriend and my wife and I are about to go have pizza and beer to celebrate.

I have a few questions from the tailgaters. Since we are coming from out of state, should I bring a roller cooler with me and just lug it around from tailgate to tailgate or is beer plentiful and easily shared? I have no problem either way but if I don't need to pack a cooler, then I won't. Also, what about chairs for sitting at the tailgates? We can bring a couple with us if that makes sense.

I'm assuming school is in session on Friday, so what time will the tailgates start hopping? I know of at least 8 of us in total that plan on walking around and trying to take in as much as we can.

If anybody wants to exchange contact information, send me a PM.

Hey guys, we are friends and fellow tailgaters with David. There a quite a few of us driving down. We are really looking forward to the game and the tailgating atmosphere....as well as the creole festival. The weather thru friday around here (oklahoma) is supposed to be 70's to near 80 with no rain. As long as the gulf remains quite, I think its going to be perfect weather wise.

I may be off on this but I think the first time OK State came down to play Louisiana Thurman Thomas was running wild and Barry Sanders was biding his time perhap doing kickoffs, I can't remember.

In 97 when you came play UL you finished 24th in the country.

Now in 2010 the Cowboys are nationally ranked again.

I'm thinking it would be in your interest to come down to Cajun Country every year
