Here's a nice little timeline of events i found online:

2002: Baldwin files lawsuit in federal court, at some point it is moved to state court.
the original suit outlined breach of contract, abuse of rights, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress (appear to be garden variety claims); it was later amended to add a claim for damages based on racial discrimination
2005: Court dismisses claim for racial discrimination, keeps other claims
2007 (May): Appeals court overturns lower court, allowing racial discrimination claim to move forward
2007 (Oct): Trial court moves forward, Baldwin wins initial jury trial for $2 million "for his claims of racial discrimination, breach of contract, abuse of rights, interference with a contract, and negligent infliction of emotional distress." (words from a later appeals court decision)
2009: Appeals court overturns on several grounds and tosses verdict and orders a new trial under its interpretation of the law
2011: Trial court (Judge Hernandez) rules on a summary judgement that Baldwin had no claims other than racial discrimination against UL, dismissing the claims for abuse of right, intentional interference with contract, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, and breach of contract. Baldwin appeals (which delays everything until resolved)
2014 (Feb): Appeals court overturns Hernandez specifically on the breach of contract claim
2014 (Oct): Louisiana Supreme Court overturns appeals court on the breach of contract claim
2016: Second trial, as ordered back in 2009, proceeds on the only remaining claim, for racial discrimination

So bacically "dismisses discrimination > Overturned > $2 mil verdict for everything > Overturned & New Trial ordered > Only discrimination claim allowed > Overturns breach of contract dismissal > Overturns the overturn > Discrimination only claim allowed."

You left out the part where he was caught trying to set up a fake school and lure 365 students to it to collect the state vouchers...this POS should be in jail not suing anyone for discrimination.

If I remember correctly Judge Hernandez wasn't too pleased with the initial trial due to some constraints that the law put on him and he did some things in the proceedings to make his point which wasn't in favor of the University.

It probably wasnt 6-6. Pretty sure you need a unanimous verdict, but not 100% on what was needed or is needed in a case like this in LA. In either case, they don't state the vote totals
