Baldwin was fired because he was a bad coach with a losing record. The fact that he publicly rejected the notion that the head coach has anything to do with putting fans in the stands was just another example of his failure to comprehend what his job was.Originally Posted by BigJohn
In the end a head coaches only job is putting fans in the stands. Bustle has proven he understands this.
Your put fans in the stands in many ways, some come to mind.
1: Win often over a significant number of seasons. Baldwin never approached this, Bustle has turned the corner.
2: Be willing to court the public. Baldwin ran from this Ricky Bustle has embraced this.
3: Court the people who provide money for the program. Again Baldwin a miserable failure, and Bustle very good.
Ricky Bustle is no longer in a honeymoon. He needs to finish strong every year in the conference and get to the New Orleans Bowl soon. He knows this, everyone knows this.
Jerry Baldwin, the great failure has never been offered another job in college coaching. No not a single high paying job that he could turn his supposed recruiting asset into income. I never bashed Jerry, and I don't think we should be doing so now. At the same time he was fired for valid reasons, and I hope he can move on. He was paid for the unused portion of his contract, he really has no beef.

I have been hearing Raymond Blanco is a possible candidate. If there was anybody worse than the previous regime, he would be it. If he does become the new president, I promise that I will no longer support this University in any way shape or form.
I love the way rumors get started. Raymond is not a candidate.Originally Posted by cajunproud
You are correct. Please help end that stupidity now. Raymond lacks the very basic credentials. ... not gonna happen.Originally Posted by BirdofParadise
I did not start the rumor. His name has been mentioned in print, on tv and on radio, but thank you for putting my fears to rest. I sincerely hope you are correct.Originally Posted by BirdofParadise

Former UL head football coach Jerry Baldwin’s lawsuit against the university will go to court Oct. 9 with discrimination charges that had been thrown out last year.
The discrimination claims had been thrown out by a summary judgment in 2006 but were reinstated earlier this month by a decision of the Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal.
The appeals court found a summary judgment should not have been applied to Baldwin’s claims of discrimination because he met his burden of proof.
“A motion for summary judgment is a procedural device used to avoid a full-scale trial when there is no genuine issue of material fact,” the court wrote.
The appeals court found Baldwin met his burden of proof in establishing grounds for possible discrimination and that UL also “came forth with seemingly legitimate and nondiscriminatory reasons” for Baldwin’s termination.

Don't buy out his contract keep him on the staff for the next coach. Demote him make him OC and let him redeem himself. Let him leave if he wants then we don't owe anything. Let him stay and you are talking a couple hundred thousand a year instead of a million to buy him out. Or move him to Martin Hall like we did Nelson, they could share an office.
I don't know all the ins and outs of his contract but I would think that any change in his status would have to be negotated and agreed to by him or else you have to pay him out. I believe the contract calls for him to be head coach and anything other than that would require a buyout or a renegotiated contract.
You are correct Hammer. The only option is a buy out. That is not going to happen right now. We are in for a long haul and if you choose to read and/or post on here, there is going to be a lot of negativity over that subject. It is deserving.
