It seems to me that this entire fiasco has a subtle hint of racism attached to it. The current coaches for our basketball teams are both African-American. The administration has, through its own incompetence, had bad experiences (i.e.., Baldwin lawsuits) when firing African-American coaches previously. It looks like the administration doesn’t want to terminate any African-American coaches because they fear that all African-American coaches, when fired, file suit against the university. This is an old-style racist attitude and mindset and will almost surely result in no qualified African-American or other minority candidates being considered or hired when these two basketball coaching slots open up. In fact, even if African American candidates are actually interviewed for these openings, it will just be lip service.
Breaking news: An appeals court has unanimously sided with UL in their appeal in the Jerry Baldwin case. The judgment against the University and former AD Nelson Schexnayder has been thrown out. The case itself has been remanded back to state court for possible retrial.
This isn't a big surprise, in that the original judge was an absolute buffoon.
GOOD!
Thank goodness someone in our judicial system has a brain! This suit just needs to die in the worst way possible.
Good. Unfortunately, someone will re-try this case.
