Sammy Kershaw and other artists have
scheduled a July 20 concert to raise money for the family of
Lafayette siblings hit by a drunk driver while in South Africa to
see the World Cup.
The June 16 accident killed 24-year-old Nicole Murphy and
severely injured her brother Brian, who remains hospitalized in
South Africa with head trauma and broken bones.
Brian Murphy, a student at LSU, will need a specialized medical
aircraft to take him back to Louisiana, and multiple operations and
extensive rehabilitation after his return.
Jamie Bergeron, River Road, Jaryd Lane and Geno Delafose also
are scheduled to perform at the concert at Parc International in
downtown Lafayette.

Lafayette, LA- A Sammy Kershaw and Friends benefit concert has been announced to help raise money for Lafayette's Murphy Family. The rain or shine concert will take place on Tuesday July 20th at Parc International in downtown Lafayette beginning at 6pm. Participating artists include Sammy Kershaw, Jamie Bergeron, River Road, Jared Lane & Geno Delafose. Tickets are $35.00 each. Tickets are available for purchase beginning Saturday July 10th, at all Acadiana Popeyes, Burgersmith, Pizza Hut, Coyote Blues Lafayette and Coyote Blues Baton Rouge locations.
Early Wednesday morning, June 16th Nicole Murphy (24) died in South Africa while attending the World Cup with her father and 3 of her siblings. She was walking on a pedestrian pathway to her hotel with 2 of her siblings, when all three were struck by a drunk driver. Nicole died instantly, and her brother Brian (a 2009 STM grad now attending LSU) still remains in critical condition. Today, he is still recovering, not only from a major head trauma, but will also require at least two more operations to heal broken limbs. Once a team of doctors decide Brian's condition is stable enough to endure a lengthy international flight; he will then require a specialized medical plane, including a team of trained medical professionals to transport him to the U.S. The medical travel expenses, alone, will be in excess of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
All of the proceeds raised from the concert will go to the Home Bank Murphy Family Support Fund to offset the medical costs of the Murphy Family. Several locally-owned companies, including Popeyes, Theatre League of Louisiana, Pizza Hut, Schilling Distributing, Acadian Ambulance, and Acadiana Bottling have come together to put on this benefit concert.
