No one wants to touch Nuclear Fission because oh it's dirty. Look at the Gulf, how long will it be destroyed from a "cleaner" energy source. Corn Ethanol was a huge bust and even wreaked havoc on food prices all to make W's stock go boom. I hope one day T. Boone Pickens runs for the biggest office in the land. Man has ideas. Wind Farms. It's super clean. A bit impractical but every little bit counts. Solar energy never gets the love it deserves. Why? Oil companies make sure to keep it too expensive to be viable. The options are out there. We just want the drug. The Black gold. One more barrell is all we need honest. I can quit anytime I want. Honestly. Cmon baby just give us some more oil. We need it!!! This is what I hear from the Cajundome today. Sounds like 15,000 meth heads just asking for one more hit.

I work for the "How to limit the efficiency of renewable energy" department of Big Oil Inc. All we do is drink single-malt and go on peoples' roofs to break their solar panels.

It is easy to write off what I'm saying as stupid, full of holes, or make fun of it. The problem is not one of you can come to the conclusion that none of this is about economic survival. It's maintaining the status quo. Keeping things just the way they are. No need for change. That kind of lazy attitude is the main problem in this state. Keeps us in the dark ages compared to the rest of the country. Sure the oil companies come and in the words of Daniel Plainview blow gold all over us, but what happens if the Saudi's decide to slam the price of oil again like the 80's? Can Louisiana survive another crash like that? Should they have learned the first time? Do we really need the oil industry to survive, or are people too imbeded in their current logic that changing is out of the question? Food for thought.

I look at your argument the same way I see people argue "Fire Bustle." Yes, I can come up with the simple conclusion that we should not depend our local economy on oil (same as those that simply want Bustle fired), but you also need to come up with a plan to replace the money and jobs lost (how do you pay for Bustle's buyout and pay for new coach, who do you hire).

So I ask you, what industry should we look into to compensate for the money and jobs lost by not focusing our efforts in the oil industry? Do we diversify the area with various industries? If yes, which industries?

Fact is, we have a niche down here in the oil industry. Oil companies are located here and they pay well. They pay the employees well and that in turn generates tax dollars and disposable income (to buy UL season tickets for instance).

i wonder if the government is going to shut down all the steel mills after that explosion last week? I mean we really should be less dependent on domestic steel anyway, oh thats right the government isnt allowing foreign steel either. Well its not like you really need steel anyway.

So... if the states that have oil don't drill for it, where will it come from? We can't all be like California and Florida and simply sit around and let others do the work for them!!

Again... for those against the oil industry, PLEASE pull over right now... park your cars, your trucks, your boats, your RVs and ATVs, stop using your weed trimmers, discontinue using all gas appliances, stop traveling by plane, train or bus... THEN AND ONLY THEN... talk about getting out of the oil business!

Louisiana was once an agriculture power. We can be that again. All it takes is a little want to. But the State loves that backdoor money the oil company brings.
