FULLERTON, Calif. — Louisiana’s run in the Kia Klassic softball tournament came to an end in the event’s quarterfinals here Saturday, and Arizona pitcher Alicia Hollowell was the person responsible.

Hollowell was near perfection in leading the Wildcats to a 2-0 victory over the Ragin’ Cajuns (28-4), eliminating the UL Lafayette squad from the championship bracket.

The 10th-ranked Cajuns, who had taken a 7-0 win over Princeton late Friday night in the opening round of championship play, could not get untracked against Hollowell (19-0), who struck out 18 of the 22 batters she faced in a one-hit effort.

In fact, the UL squad didn’t have a base runner until Hillary Guidry led off the seventh inning with a single through the hole at shortstop. Hollowell came back to strike out Holly Tankersley, Danyele Gomez and Joy Webre to complete the near-perfect game.

Brooke Mitchell (22-3) got the hard-luck loss for the Cajuns, herself allowing only three hits to the No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Wildcats. Arizona didn’t get its first hit until the fourth inning, but parlayed three hits in that inning into the game’s two runs.

Caitlin Lowe broke up Mitchell’s no-hit bid with a dribbler in front of the circle and stole second, moved up on Autumn Champion’s bloop single and scored on Wendy Allen’s sacrifice fly. Jackie Coburn’s single then scored Champion with an insurance run.

Mitchell, who had surpassed the Cajuns’ single-season strikeout record in Friday’s late win, no-hit the Wildcats the rest of the way, but the Cajuns could not rally against Hollowell in being eliminated from the Kia by Arizona for the second straight year.
