60-year-old LeRoy Doucet is disabled. He suffered a stroke several years ago- paralyzing the entire right side of his body.
Now, Doucet lays in a hospital bed for a different reason. He was brutally beaten in his own home by strangers during a robbery.
"He hit me across the head with it," Doucet said. "My cane broke then he started using my crutch and he beat me up with my crutch."
This isn't the first time Doucet was robbed in his Washington home. He says it's happened twice before, but this time became violent.
"It really looks like a murder scene," Doucet's sister, Mary, said. "The floors are full, the recliner is full... Of blood."
Doucet says it was easy for the intruders to come in. The door had been broken from an earlier robbery. He says the assisted living center he was staying at hadn't fixed it.
Family members are also worried about Doucet's living situation. They say the assisted living center may ask Doucet to leave.
However, Doucet insists he didn't know the attackers and doesn't know why he'd be targeted.
"They took his own cane and his own crutch," brother-in-law Gary Dunaway said. "They beat him unconscious with his own stuff. I wish I could do something."
Washington Police Chief John Offord says they have suspects on paper but can't make any arrests until they complete their investigation. If police were to prosecute the suspects now, there may not be enough evidence to convict them
"These things don't happen so fast," Offord said. "They can take some time."
Until arrests are made, Doucet will lay in his hospital bed in pain and in fear of another attack.
