Lafayette drivers who frequent Surrey Street may need to detour over the next month while repairs are made to the Surrey Street bridge.

Motorists trying to travel south on Surrey to the airport will instead need to head west on Pinhook Road and turn left onto University Avenue, which connects to Surrey.

Nearby businesses may also be inconvenienced. Christine Bardin, one of the owners of Surrey Street's "Somewhere's Else Bar and Grill" worries how many customers will be up for the detour.

"It just stops right there, they'll have to make a big detour," said Bardin.

Officials with the Department of Public Works estimate work on the Surrey Street bridge should be completed by August 10th.
