UM baseball continues woes

The Ole Miss baseball team dropped its seventh straight game with a discouraging loss to Southwestern Louisiana 12-11 Monday night at Oxford University Stadium-Swayze Field.
"Good ball clubs go through bad times, but they turn things around," said coach Pat Harrison. "I have not given up on this team."
The Rebels took a 11-10 lead off of an eighth inning double by Chad Hill, which plated Sean Eylar. For the moment, it appeared that Ole Miss had squeaked out a victory over the Ragin' Cajuns.
However, in the top of the ninth with two outs and no one on base, Dan McShea hit Zach Wilson on a 3-2 pitch. The next batter, Oswaldo Aguirre, hit an opposite field home run which gave Southwestern Louisiana the victory.
With the loss, Ole Miss dropped to 14-11 on the season. Southwestern Louisiana improved to 17-7 and picked up their fifth straight victory. Dan McShea (2-1) took the loss for Ole Miss, while Tony Landry (1-0) picked up the win for the Ragin' Cajuns.
"We are getting beaten down to a pulp right now and sometimes it takes that," said Harrison.
Michael Nickell started the game on the mound for Ole Miss and Southwestern Louisiana jumped on him early for two runs on two hits.
The Rebels responded with three runs in the bottom half of the first off of a Scott Eskra home run. With Tim Nipper and Eylar on base, Eskra yanked a B. J. Ryan pitch into the trees behind the left field wall.
Southwestern Louisiana answered with three runs in the top of the second. The Ragin' Cajuns plated three runs on three hits including a Kevin Cantrelle home run to straight-away center.
Ole Miss pounded out four hits and used the help of one error to send across four runs in the bottom of the second.
With the Rebels up 7-5, the Rebel pitching staff silenced Southwestern Louisiana for four straight innings. Ole Miss picked up two runs in the third inning on a Brad Henderson double to left field with two outs and one run in the sixth to build a 10-5 lead.
Just when the game seemed to be in hand, the Ragin' Cajuns plated a run in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to tie the game 10-10.
Henderson continued his hot hitting with a three for five effort on the evening. Henderson also picked up three RBI's on the evening. Eskra was two for two on the game and used three walks to reach base five times. Eskra picked up three RBI's on the game on his fourth home run of the year in the first inning.
The Rebels travel to Jackson to take on Mississippi State in the Mayor's Trophy game on Wednesday night.
