Tuesday's floods brought headaches for many in Acadiana. They were especially frustrating for those in Iberia Parish, where a number of roads were closed because of high waters. That includes Cypress Lane and Pecan Lane near Jeanerette.
"Every time it rains for almost two to three hours you got this high water, we talk to the councilman about digging the ditches, he tells you he's going to come here, but it's never going to happen," said Cypress Lane resident Robert Wagner.
Councilman Jerome Fitch acknowledged a problem with the ditches in Wagner's area, and says he's working with the Department of Public Works on a solution.
"I think just maybe clearing that ditch out and then bringing that water back to the Bayou Teche we can do a better job of getting rid of that water," he said.
Wagner could not give a timeline on when ditches near Cypress Lane and Pecan Lane might be cleared out, but residents in the area might be seeing more water over the next few days; a flood watch remains in effect through Wednesday.
