Coach Amato's first season was Rivers' freshman year. Rivers led a 4th Quarter comeback in his opening game in front of a half-full Carter-Finley Stadium in the pour-down rain... the rest as you know it was history. He set about every record possible for a NCSU quarterback and many ACC records... If the team had a kicker or wouldn't have fumbled here and there, he might have been your 2004 Heisman (touchy subject). It will be fun to see how Amato does without Rivers running the show. There is a Junior named Jay Davis who has been by Rivers side the last 3 years, and there is a red-shirt Freshman who is about 6-5 220lbs (about Rivers' size) that many think will get the nod next year.
Yes, Amato wears some sunglasses that have been talked about nation-wide (I think they were even brought up on ESPN's PTI).
McClendon is a stud. He has a problem with injuries though, it's a shame. If he can be healthy for a whole season, he would be up there in Heisman consideration. But the thing is, next year, we will have 2-3 running backs to will challenge for playing time (Freshmen Andre Brown, Darrell Blackman... and sophomore Reggie Davis).
Yes. NCSU fans follow NFL guys very closely. The most followed would probably be Rams WR, Torry Holt. He still is real close with NCSU and the fans love him. Rivers will be followed VERY closely.
A lot of NCSU fans follow the Panthers... a great deal of fans also like the Redskins and Cowboys (I personally am a Panthers fan).
We are still praying Herb will get COY and Hodge will get POY... it should be announced sometime soon. Gary Williams (Maryland) made a late push for COY after winning the ACC Tourney with mainly freshman, and Paul Hewitt (GT) also has a good case for turning a terrible team last year into a #3 seed team this year. McCants (UNC), Duhon (Duke)... are among the top challengers for POY with Hodge.
