  Former UL softball star makes pro debut

Back in 2009, Karli Hubbard wrapped up her collegiate softball career by being named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year and a third-team All-American as a senior at UL.

Flash back to the present day and the Comeaux High School graduate is now playing for the National Professional Fastpitch's USSSA Florida Pride in Orlando.

Hubbard, a speedy outfielder, made her pro debut Thursday and scored once in the Prides' 5-4 loss to the Akron Racers in 10 innings.

  Sometimes even Karli Hubbard struggles to fully comprehend her current situation.

Hubbard, a third-team NFCA All-America outfielder at UL as a senior in 2009, is now playing for the National Pro Fastpitch's USSSA Florida Pride.

"It's definitely been exciting and crazy," Hubbard said. "My whole life changed in a week."

Professional: Hubbard begins her professional career in the National Professional Fastpitch League in 2010 as a member of the USSSA Florida Pride.

College: Hubbard made her debut on the field at the University of Louisiana in 2006 as a redshirt freshman. For the season, she ranked fifth on the team with a .284 batting average and her .316 for Sun Belt Conference games was second-best on the team. She was a First Team All-Sun Belt selection for the 2007 season and was second on the team with a .328 batting average, 42 runs scored, 11 stolen bases, and 63 hits. In 2008, Hubbard was named to the Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference and ranked in the top five in batting average, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, total bases, sacrifice bunts, and stolen bases. Hubbard was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year her senior season in 2009 and was also named for the second time to the First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.
