GRENTA, La. (AP) - An Arizona company that installed a red-light
camera traffic system in Jefferson Parish has filed a $5 million
suit.
Redflex Traffic Systems says the parish breached its contract by
turning off the system in January. The system takes photos of
motorists who run red lights, to be used for prosecution.
The parish put $20 million in collected fines into an escrow
account after learning that two lobbyists were to get 3.2 percent
of all fines collected as a commission for helping Redflex obtain
the contract.
The parish is auditing the system to decide whether to
reactivate it. An attorney for the parish told New Orleans
CityBusiness that the review has not been completed.
