AUBURN - In a heated match Thursday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Center, Auburn's cooler heads prevailed and the Tiger tennis team took a 4-1 win from Louisiana. Gabor Zoltan Pelva continued to play well, winning his third match in a row.
Zoltan Pelva, ranked No. 70 by the ITA, defeated No. 63 Evghenni Corduneanu 6-3, 6-1 on court one. Zoltan Pelva also teamed with Alex Schweizer for a doubles win on court one, defeating the Ragin' Cajun duo of Corduneanu and Marc Castellana, 8-1. Auburn teammates Rodrigo Minozzo and Robert Lathouwers also picked up a doubles win, beating Amanjot Singh and Ivan Kovalev 8-5 to clinch the doubles point.
Picking up singles wins along with Zoltan Pelva were Nick Lane and Robert Lathouwers. Lane played a phenomenal match on court five, making quick work of Shaun Ellison, 6-0, 6-1. Lathouwers likewise played well, taking a win over Robin Ley 6-1, 6-3. Two matches were suspended once Auburn clinched the 4-1 victory.
"Obviously it is nice for us to be able to pick up a win over a quality opponent," said Auburn head coach Eric Shore.
