The School of Architecture and Design at the University of Louisiana is hosting a week of events March 15-19 as it celebrates Design Week 2004.
Several events are planned throughout the week starting with an exhibit on March 15. “Inner Scene Vienna” is a traveling exhibit highlighting the work of 40 young Austrian Architects.
This exhibit attempts to capture the phenomenon of the Viennese architecture scene, with an emphasis on composing a snapshot of the scope of their functions and the potential they possess. The exhibit will open at 5 p.m. in the Dean’s Gallery, Fletcher Hall, room 202 and will run until April 4.
In addition to this exhibit, architect Scott Enge of Marmol & Radziner Associates in Los Angeles will discuss “Fabricating Modernism” at 3:30 p.m. March 15 in Fletcher Hall, room 134.
Enge's workshop will result in a laser-cut stainless steel structure defined by compound curves and warping surfaces. This structure will ultimately help to support a fabric structure that will be put up during a following workshop and also allow for seating on the second floor terrace at Fletcher Hall.
Charles Duvall of Duvall Design, will also host a workshop March 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Fletcher Hall, room 134 that will transform the second floor terrace of Fletcher Hall into a student center through the installation of a 3,000 square foot fabric roof.
The project will be designed, fabricated and installed in an intensive four-day charrette with the second year architecture and interior design students.
This design collaborative is being led by Assistant Professor Corey Saft of the School of Architecture and includes Enge, Duvall, the second year Architecture and Interior Design students and student assistants Benji Beaugh and David Jaubert.
In addition to these events, a screening of “My Architect” will be shown on March 17 at 7 p.m. in the Bayou Bijou. This is Nathaniel Kahn’s documentary investigating his father, Louis Kahn. This film is nominated for an Academy Award in the best documentary category.
