Best of luck to Cooper and his family. I hope he gets the opportunity to play but I have absolutely no trust in the NCAA Appeal process. Having been that route for different reasons, all I will say is they don't give a damn about the kid, just about protecting the school. That may be the only thing in his favor, the fact that Northwestern has given him a release.
How many years of eligibility would he have? He would have to sit out a year right? which would give him 2 years.
He has filed a hardship letter, which would give him 4 years of eligibility if granted, since he redshirted at Northwestern last season. It sounds as if that is a long shot. More than likely, he will have to sit out this upcoming season due to transferring to another D-1 school and would have 3 years of eligibility as a Cajun.
From what i understand, he redshirted last year, Northwestern granted him a release and he is coming home due to personal reasons. Seems like the NCAA would grant it. Of course they do what they want. CC
it seems like they should grant him the 4 years but the NCAA doesnt usually do what should be done. so it probably is a long shot considering how inconsistent the NCAA seems to be.
His situation is a little different than a typical hardship case. If the NCAA people have any sense - and heart - they'll approve his case. (Insert NCAA joke here.)

Is the story about family problems public knowledge-----Reason I ask is that depending on the circumstances, this will determine the judgement of the NCAA!!! when we lost the services of that great lineman a couple of years ago because of his mother's health--thought that was a slam dunk!!!!
Nope. And I'm not going to share the specific details out of respect for the family.
