Sean Comiskey of LaPlace, a place-kicker at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, was honored recently for outstanding achievement.

Comiskey received the Brian Mitchell Special Forces Most Valuable Player Award last month in a ceremony at the Cajun Dome.

Mitchell, after 14 seasons in the NFL, has more career total yards than any other player in the NFL.

Mitchell, who graduated from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, presented the award to Comiskey.

"I'd rather have my job, with 11 people coming after me, than . . . be a kicker with the game on the line," Mitchell said in his presentation. "The game basically stops and all eyes are on him. He knows if he misses it, he's a goat."

Comiskey, who graduated in 2002 from Archbishop Rummel, was named the Sun Belt Conference special teams player of the week as a freshman for his performance in an October game at North Texas. He was 3-for-3 in field goal attempts and 2-for-2 in extra points in the Ragin' Cajuns' 44-23 loss.

Comiskey's effort was only the ninth time in Sun Belt Conference history that a kicker has been successful on three field goal attempts.

He is the son of Pat and Adrienne Comiskey of LaPlace.
