Lafayette Parish students were given a sneak peek Thursday at the Thibodaux Career and Technical High School. The school is part of the "Schools of Choice" program and any student who will be a freshman this fall is welcome to apply.
The curriculum will allow students to explore various careers and take technical classes catered toward their interests. Upon graduation, students will have a high school diploma, college credit and industry-based certification.
"The interest has been really good, over 150 applications and that was as of last week," said Burnell LeJeune, director of the Schools of Choice program.
LeJeune says the school is the first of it's kind in the state. There will be somewhere between 100 and 125 spots open to incoming freshman this fall and because of all the interest a lottery will determine who will get to attend. The drawing will be held on July 12th, so students are encouraged to apply before then. Applications must be filled out on-line at the Schools of Choice website.
For the next two years the school will be housed on the campus of Acadiana Technical College. Superintendent Burnell Lemoine says he expects to announce a permanent location for the school within the next two weeks.
