BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana gained 10,300 non-farm jobs
from April to May though state officials warn the impact of the
Gulf of Mexico oil spill hasn't yet hit.
The Louisiana Workforce Commission said Thursday that the state
- on a non-seasonally adjusted basis - still had 9,900 fewer jobs
last month than in May 2009.
All metropolitan areas added jobs from April to May.
However commission executive director Curt Eysink says the
latest count was based on reports taken around May 12 - and it's
not yet known how many jobs the oil spill has affected since then.
The BP-operated rig Deepwater Horizon exploded April 20 and sank
two days later, leading to the oil spill.
