BATON ROUGE, La. -- Center Treynell Clavelle and guard Amber Long will be transferred from LSU, coach Pokey Chatman announced Thursday.

Clavelle averaged 3.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in 10 minutes per game. She scored a career-high 11 points in LSU's victory over No. 1 seed Texas in the NCAA regional semifinal and contributed a career-best nine rebounds in the SEC tournament second-round victory over Ole Miss.

"It is difficult to part ways with a player the caliber of Treynell," Chatman said. "She made significant contributions when called upon. Her performance in the Sweet 16 against Texas comes to mind. Anytime you have someone that can score 11 points off the bench on that stage, you hate to lose them."

Taylor's defensive playbook wasn't dictionary-thick at Lafayette. He played cornerback for one season opposite Charles Tillman, who, like Taylor, was a 2003 draft pick. With Taylor and Tillman -- the Bears' second-round selection -- on the corners, Lafayette kept it simple.

"The playbook was probably a couple of pages," Taylor said. "We played a couple of half-field (coverages), a little Cover 2. But other than that, we just manned-up the whole game."

Besides the exposure of a marketing snafu by Louisiana, it is an otherwise interesting article on the fallacy of mascot correctness.

It seems to me that schools should understand the pain their name selection places on a majority of Native Americans. They do not see it as an honor, as the Cajuns, Orangeman, and Irish see theirs with. Maybe because the Native Americans population were brought to near extinction by the Euro invasion. I would recommend these schools think about this and resolve to place these names in the past.

I would not try to force a school to do the above only that they try to walk in the moccicins of a defeated people so to speak.

That article is very interesting. I think people need to chill out and realize what we're talking about here... a frickin game. Why can't these groups of people see the mascot as a proud symbol of who they are instead of a mockery. Certainly, no school would choose a mascot that would mock itself. I wish people would just stop being such "pear shaped organs!" (I didn't use the other word, because I wouldn't want to offend anyone)
