The first test comes Thursday night when the Colts and Patriots meet in the NFL's opener.

''I've not really noticed anything different in the preseason,'' Colts receiver Brandon Stokley said. ''There are things you can do to fight through that. You have to play hard and be aggressive yourself.''

The Colts insist they're ready to counter whatever moves the Patriots might try: grabs, throwdowns, body slams.

The Rockies do have three in-system candidates for the right-handed role next year - Scott Dohmann, Allan Simpson and Chin-hui Tsao, each of whom has shown an ability to get strikeouts but still needs to become more consistent.

Dohmann was converted from a starter to a reliever at Class AA Tulsa (Okla.) a year ago, and when problems developed in the bullpen earlier this year, he was rushed to the majors, where he has gone through on-the-job training.
