Congested roads can give any driver a headache.

Lafayette driver, Morris Mouton, said road construction is "blocking my road here and I have to go around this way and there's a lot of traffic."

Another driver, Renee Cert, said "Am I sick of it? Yes. I'm getting very tired of it because I work down this street—Camellia--so I use it everyday."

The intersection at Johnston and Camellia in Lafayette has been under construction for the past few months and unfortunately it will be that way for a few more.

Pat Logan, City-Parish Associate Director of Public Works, said "that project is on schedule--it's probably 35 to 40 percent complete, we are hoping to get it done this year."

It's just one infrastructure improvement of more than thirty scheduled for the next year.

Logan said, "We have some major projects that take awhile to get going that are under construction."

The Surrey St. Bridge is the newest project. The entire bridge will be closed down beginning in two weeks. Officials hope it'll reopen in time for the school year."

"The school bus terminal is located on Surrey St.-- right near the bridge--so it'd be a real problem for the school bus schedule," he said.

Engineers said the 60 year old bridge will fail if it's not replaced soon. The completion date is scheduled for August 10th.

Lafayette resident, Scottie Latiolias, said "Lafayette is already congested as it is. I’ll be happy when they have a by pass or what not."

Another project to improve Jefferson St. downtown will begin in September.
