  6. Default Ragin' Cajuns tally early in victory

SAN MARCOS, Texas — This time, Louisiana’s baseball squad didn’t wait to get its bats cranked up.

The Ragin’ Cajuns pushed across five runs on six hits in the first three innings here Saturday afternoon and never looked back in taking a 6-3 win over Texas State in the middle contest of their three-game weekend series.

The Cajuns (2-1), who fell 6-4 in Friday’s series opener, took their first road win of the season and will go for two in a row in today’s 1 p.m. finale. Junior Kevin Ardoin (0-0, 1.80) will get his second start of the season for the Cajuns and will face Texas State’s Tom Robbins (1-1, 3.94).

The rubber game will air over KPEL-AM (1420 kHz) beginning at 12:45 p.m.

The Cajun squad scored twice in the opening frame off TSU starter Brian Hurley (1-1) and then batted around in a three-run third inning highlighted by Rhett Buras’ two-run double, part of his three-RBI day.

That was more than enough for Kraig Schambough (1-0), who scattered five hits in just over five innings of work and allowed only a fifth-inning run. Josh Kohrs relieved Schambough in the sixth and allowed four hits and two RBI singles in the final two innings while striking out six for his first save.

John Coker was hit by pitches to begin both of UL Lafayette’s early rallies, scoring on Ryan Core’s double in the first and Core scoring himself on Micah Cockrell’s RBI double.
