A black bear was sighted in Ville Platte Monday morning, June 14, on West Wilson Street.

Police Chief Neal Lartigue said persons living northwest of the tracks between Jefferson, Jackson, Beauregard, Derouen, Reed, Coreil and Wilson should be cautious and report a sighting to the police department at 363-1313.

"Don't approach it, if you see the bear," Lartigue said. "Call us." He said the bear might be in a tree or under a shed. He said it's going to seek a location to keep cool as the day begins to get hotter.
