NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The unified command center coordinating the response to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is moving to New Orleans.
Coast Guard Lt. Eric Halvorson said Monday the center will shift its operations from a Royal Dutch Shell training facility in
Robert, La., to larger quarters in a downtown New Orleans office building. Operations at the new site could begin by Thursday.
Halvorson said the move will put officials of BP, the Coast Guard and others working on the spill closer to the coast and in
space designed specifically for their operations.
