LAFAYETTE — Inclement weather was the only winner on Friday as a trio of UL Lafayette athletic events got washed out.
The 18th annual Louisiana Classics Softball Tournament was the big victim, leaving the No. 9-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns and three other schools out of luck at Ragin’ Cajun Softball Park.
Four games were slated for Friday, but the revised schedule calls for a pair of games this evening and four on Sunday.
Also washed out was the season opener in Ragin’ Cajun baseball against Sam Houston State at Moore Field. Friday’s single game was at first paired with a game today for a doubleheader, then that twinbill was pushed to 1 p.m. Sunday.
UL’s tennis dual match against Southern University was rained out, and the men and women are scheduled to meet LSU today in Baton Rouge.
“All of the coaches are eager to get started,” said UL softball co-head coach Stefni Lotief, who is hosting Louisiana Tech, Northwestern State and McNeese State.
“A couple of them have already had rainouts. And, the Southland Conference (including NSU and McNeese) starts conference play so early that they’re eager to play.
