    Brown, Comiskey earn preseason recognition

NEW ORLEANS — UL Lafayette landed a pair of players on the preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team announced Monday during media day activities, and both safety C.C. Brown and place kicker Sean Comiskey come with solid credentials.

Brown, a second-team all-league choice last fall as a junior college transfer, lead the Cajuns in tackles at 6.1 per game. After missing the opener while paperwork was cleared up on his transfer, he started the last 11 games of the campaign.

“C.C. has turned into a heck of a leader for us,” said coach Rickey Bustle. “When he came here last year, he had to learn our system. He was quiet, but was a hard worker and led by example.

“Then last spring, we found out C.C. has a little personality to him. He’s more vocal now.”

Brown became the first Cajun to earn Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week laurels, had a season-high 11 tackles at Southern Miss, recorded 10 tackles against both Houston and UL Monroe and had five or more tackles in nine of the last 10 games.

Comiskey was the UL scoring leader with 64 points in 2003, converting 28-of-29 extra points and 12-of-15 field goal attempts. He was the All-Conference kicker and garnered one Special Teams Player of the Week nod.

“Sean is as steady a kicker as I’ve ever been around,” Bustle said. “And, he’s working as hard as any position player we have. He wants to be the best he can be. He’s steady, and it’s fun to be around him.”

Opponents were averaging 193.7 yards per game in 1992, and after the change... in 1993 oppenents averaged only 88.6
Opponents had 130 1st downs by rushing in 1992 in 1993 that number dropped to 71.

While moving into the pass-happy Big West accounted for some of this... The ATTACK style fit the personnel.

The Cajuns have tremendous athletes on the D-Line and turning them loose is a great plan, especially with a more experienced Defensive backfield.

Last season opposing teams rushed for an average of 215.8 yards per game.
Ball control matters and the differential for the Cajuns in 2003 was almost 100 yards per game.

Insert a an aggressive 4-3 alignment and a committment to use multiple backs and a ball-control offense... Babb is also going to average more than last season's 193.3 yards per game passing and his 61+% completion percentage is exactly what Bustle wants...

I look for a turnaround this season, with some early road wins that will surprise a few people.

And that will make your chart prophetic... we just need to avoid a year 6 skid...
    OUCH!
That '93, '94 defense was special. That unit had a few players we don't have right now.

When it comes to defense, I believe that football is a lot like baseball in that it all starts with how good you are up the middle. Players like Orlando Thomas, Patrice Alexander, Charles Pool, and Jeff Mitchell are not here right now.

Just wondering how and when are our team captains selected? Who were the captains last year?

UL Football Picture of new jerseys?

I read on Delphi that a picture of Babb was in the advertiser with the new jersey. Of course, that picture is not on the website, so if anyone can get the picture posted (for us out of towners), it'd be appreciated!

Hmm can I take this to mean "LOUISIANA" is under his crossed arms?

Or is crossed arms symbolic for (I know I'm grasping) 2-L's?

I think Justin Venable has a few years left. He'd be a good captain. (hell, he's already been here about 5 years.....) He's a good kid & his dad is a great supporter.
