LOUISIANA La. — University of Louisiana was declared champion and junior pitcher Brooke Mitchell was named MVP as the All-Tournament awards for the UL Monroe Mardi Gras Classic were announced Monday.

The ninth-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns (3-1) finished in a three-way tie with Georgia Tech and Kentucky, but won the tiebreaker on run differential. Louisiana racked up 37 runs in four tournament contests.

Mitchell (2-1) finished the tournament with a 0.78 earned run average allowing just two earned runs in three starts. The Pasadena, Texas, native completed the tournament with 33 strikeouts for an average of 11 per game and walked just six batters.

In the Cajuns’ final game of the tournament, she struck out 12 and pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout as UL topped in-state rival ULM 10-0.

Brittany Bryant, Lacey Bertucci and Holly Tankersley joined Mitchell as members of the All-Tournament team.

Bryant led all Cajun hitters with a .455 average, cranking out two doubles and two home runs while driving in six runs. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and home run in the ULM win.
