Dixie Mayard’s daughter, Angela, came home with a small cactus in her hand after visiting then classmate Lisa Trahan Facianne. Angela persuaded her mom, Dixie Mayard, to plant it in the backyard to begin a cactus garden.
At the time, the plant was about six inches tall and six inches in diameter.
Mayard placed rocks around it, giving the Mayards a small cactus garden behind their home. What Dixie planted was not a simple cactus. It was a century plant.
