Attending or betting on a cockfight now can get you thrown in jail.
Gov. Bobby Jindal has signed into law a bill that creates the crime of "participation in cockfighting."
Anyone convicted of attending a cockfight, betting on a cockfight or paying admission to any place where people can watch or wager on a cockfight will face up to six months in jail and up to a $500 fine.
Republican Sen. Danny Martiny, of Kenner, says he sponsored the bill because cockfights are still held in Louisiana even though the Legislature banned them in 2008.
