St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Detectives arrested a Carencro resident on numerous felony drug charges including the theft and sale of approximately (30,000) thirty-thousand Lortab, Xanex, Soma pills.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz said, "Our Narcotics Detectives investigated a complaint of a pharmacy technician stealing Lortab, Soma and Xanex pills. During the investigation the Detectives obtained video of several of the thefts and count sheets showing that the suspect stole specific quantities of pills on specific dates. The count sheets show approximately (30,000) thirty- thousand pills missing".
Guidroz state, "the suspect, Melinda Simon, was questioned about the thefts and she admitted to stealing approximately two-hundred pills per theft and three thefts per week since March of 2009. The approximate total quantity of pills stolen was (30,000) thirty-thousand. The approximate street value of the stolen pills was ($300,000.00) three-hundred-thousand dollars. The Detectives also located approximately twelve Seraquel sleeping pills in a cigarette pack wrapper in the Simon's vehicle. Simon then stated that she got the pills from an unnamed female".
The St. Landry Parish Narcotics Detectives received additional information from CVS Pharmacy personnel, who indicated that they may have additional pills missing and would have the pill count back to the Detectives within a few days. Simon was also wanted for Marijuana and Paraphernalia charges since 2009 and will be booked on the following charges:
1. Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (Marijuana)
2. Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
3. Felony Theft (3 Counts)
4. Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance (Lortab) (3 Counts)
5. Possession with Intent to Distribute a Legend Drug (Seraquel)
