"Our goal is to be a team. Our guys were tired. It was a hot night out
there. We didn't lose our composure when things didn't go well. It was
important to win for our fans and our program."
"We had a chance to look at film yesterday. It wasn't really different than
what we felt after the game. Defensively we need to get more out of our
front line.
"In the second half we played better than the first half, but as a whole we
played determined."
"Our special teams played a big part in this game."
"We played 21 players in new positions, 18 of them their first college game.
We wished we could have played some other guys a little bit more, but in a
close game we wanted to make sure we won."

Next foe Louisiana Tech impressive in opening win
LOUISIANA La. — UL returned to earth on Monday.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are coming off a season-opening win for the first time in three years under coach Rickey Bustle, but when they watched TV on Labor Day they got an idea of how hard it will be to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 1990.
Louisiana Tech followed running back Ryan Moats to a 38-21 victory over visiting Nevada on ESPN2, a vivid reminder of Tech’s 34-3 triumph over UL at Cajun Field last fall.
That provided immediate focus for Bustle’s squad, which travels to Ruston on Saturday.
"They went right down and scored on their opening drive," Bustle said of Tech. "Moats is a heck of a player. They gave it to him about seven times in a row on that drive.
"They’re big up front and I know they’ve got good receivers. They’re breaking in a new quarterback, so I don’t know how many times they’re going to throw."
Bustle is familiar with LT defensive coordinator Tim Rose, who is working with a veteran group.
"They’ve got six or seven starters back on defense," Bustle said. "I know Tim is going to give us a lot of different looks. He’s a great motivator, and I know he’ll have that defense playing well."
Bustle, meanwhile, was still beaming over the performance of his team in a 14-7 win over Northwestern State at Cajun Field. It was far from a perfect game, but starting with a win makes teaching a young team that much easier.
"We had 21 players at new positions in that game," Bustle said. "Eighteen of them were playing in their first college game.

. Players committee established for season
LOUISIANA La. — One game into his third season as head coach of Louisiana's Ragin’ Cajuns, Rickey Bustle is still learning to try new things.
Bustle, whose team takes a 1-0 start into Saturday’s meeting with Louisiana Tech in Ruston, has installed a players’ committee to better deal with the challenges that come up during the campaign.
“I started thinking about it last spring, and decided it was something I wanted to do,” Bustle said. “It’s the first time we’ve done it.
“We have a committee of 12 players representing the team, players who understand the importance of what we’re trying to do.”
The group is not just seniors, but a more comprehensive group of senior, junior, sophomore and freshmen Cajuns.

Derek Morel relished tilt vs. brother
LOUISIANA La. — That face across the line of scrimmage was a familiar one for Louisiana’s Derek Morel.
Morel and younger brother Connor were on opposite sides when the Cajuns opened the 2004 season against Northwestern State last Saturday, Derek at linebacker and Connor at quarterback for the visiting Demons.
“He kind of gave me a wink and smiled when he came on the field,” Morel said of Connor, who hit 4-of-4 passes for 18 yards in limited action.
“It was weird. Since we’ve been growing up, we’ve always been together. I was the receiver and he was the quarterback. So, playing defense against him was a little different.
“But once the game started, he wasn’t my brother any more. He was the opposing quarterback.”
The Cajuns prevailed 14-7 before a crowd of over 22,000, a good number of whom are members of the Morel clan.
“We had more family members than we knew what to do with afterwards,” Morel said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him continuing to improve.”
The Cajuns’ Morel is on his own path of improvement, getting more of a role as a sophomore after limited duty in 2003.
“Last year I was mostly a special teams player,” Morel said. “To be able to play defense, and even starting this year, is really nice.

i would like to thank all of you who made it to the game and lined up for the cajun walk, it was good to see i am sure the players appreciated the effort hope we can keep it up. good crowd, good food and good fun had by all and to top it off, "GREAT WIN," it's been a long time, oh! and lets not forget.....GREAT CROWD!
i played in our old timers baseball game this weekend and i'm celebrating my birthday today, so it's been a good week and weekend for me.

Bruce Brown wrote today that LA Tech's QB is inexperienced, and probably won't throw the ball much. I just hope the CBs and SSs dont daze off back there b/c LA tech has a history of great QBs.
