Here is the response I got from comments@ragincajuns.com

Thanks for the feeback. It helps us better ourselves and better service the needs of our loyal fans. Here's how the process for the media guide works:
The players in the media guide who are no longer on the team are in there because the guide was sent to the press on July 5. Those players were either still on the team when the guide was printed or the coaching staff was hoping said player would be on the team.

As for players not in the media guide, when the guide was printed they were not part of the team and possibly walked on or joined the team prior to fall practice beginning. Unfortunately with the early deadlines for printing the media guide it will never be totally accurate. We cannot control player personnel decisions.

An update on the Internet roster: We will be typing an official dress roster for the Northwestern State game before the end of this week and placing it on the Internet. The reason you haven't seen one yet is because the roster is constantly changing (players switching jersey numbers) and some haven't been given a game jersey yet. Once the roster is finalized we will be placing it on the 'net and each game week updating it for the particular week's game.

  5. UL Football Scrimmage #3

    Starters rule the day
Cajuns’ first stringers shine in final scrimmage.

LOUISIANA La. — University of Louisiana starters ruled Wednesday’s scrimmage at Cajun Field, as it should be with the season opener 10 days away.

But Ragin’ Cajun backups will be evaluated on how much of a fight they put up as the squad turns its attention to the Northwestern State Demons.

“We’ll have to look at the film to see what the backups did,” coach Rickey Bustle said. “I thought the first team offense and defense both did some good things.

“As a group, that second team needs to step up. I don’t know that that happened. Maybe when we look at the film, we’ll see that they played better than I thought.”

“A lot of the second and third-teamers haven’t had a chance to jell yet,” cornerback Terryl Fenton said. “The first team has been together a little longer. You have to have time to grow together.”

Sophomore quarterback Jerry Babb hit 10-of-21 passes for 154 yards and touchdowns of 43 yards to B.J. Crist and 34 to Kemmie Lewis. He had a scoring pass dropped by Crist and suffered an interception in a two-minute drill just before halftime.

“Some of Jerry’s passes aren’t the prettiest, but he gets them there,” Bustle said. “He made one bad decision there in that two-minute drill.

“It was good to see B.J. make some plays,” Bustle said of Crist, who had been slowed by a leg injury for much of camp. “I don’t think Jerry was necessarily trying to get him involved. I just think that’s where the reads took him, and they looked like the right reads.”

“The receivers made some plays for me,” Babb said. “And, the offensive line gave me great protection. I don’t think I felt any pressure out there. The line also did a great job blocking in the running game.

Got this response from NS this morning and I am expecting a call from Gerald Hebert later today.

Football media guides are due before SunBelt Football media days, which occur in mid-July. With the delays involved in layout, design, printing and shipping, the media guides were sent to the printer sometime in late June. Thus, the changes since then look like we are not current. It is part of the trade-off between accuracy at season opening and getting the information out as soon as possible. Thank you for your interest.

"I hope whoever develops the roster learns how to spell Moore as in St. Thomas Moore!!!!!!!!!!!"

The correct spelling is "More" with one "o". St. Thomas More.

  11. UL Football Cajuns seek dependable new targets at receiver

LOUISIANA La. — It was far too easy to rely on Fred Stamps last year whenever Louisiana needed a big play in the passing game.

Stamps has moved on to the NFL now, so Cajun receivers coach Brian Crist is working on a new formula this season.

Even the veterans among his wideouts have new things they haven’t faced before.

“The seniors have been here, but they’ll have different roles now,” Crist said. “We’re still trying them at different positions so see how they handle it.”

Carencro product Bill Sampy has been a productive No. 2 receiver when paired with Stamps, but his role is enlarged now as a senior.

Fellow seniors Kemmie Lewis and B.J. Crist are also experienced, while senior Travis Smothers has moved out wide from running back in his second and final campaign at UL.

They are joined by freshmen Eddie Brown, Jordan Jackson, Frank Johnson, Kevin Robins, Bruce Taylor and Ray Givens.

Vinson holds onto starting QB job for Demons

NATCHITOCHES -- While still considering some depth chart decisions in the wake of his team's final preseason scrimmage Wednesday night, Northwestern State football coach Scott Stoker said Thursday that junior Davon Vinson has held onto the starting quarterback's job for next weekend's season-opening game at Louisiana-Lafayette.

Stoker also named senior Josh Storrs as the Demons' placekicker, unseating two-year starter Tommy Hebert, and tabbed freshman transfer Ricky Joe Meeks as NSU's punter, beating out two-year starter Chris Stegall.
