  2. UL Football Highlights from Rickey Bustle's (post NT pre Troy) Press Conference

    On loss to North Texas…
“I really feel for our football team. Looking at film I was really impressed with the way we got to the ball. We did more gang tackling than we have all year.”

“I think Stanley Smith had one of his better games since he’s been here. We played defense the way we’ve been trying to all year.”

“Until (Jemario) Thomas got that long run he only had 137 yards. We had done a pretty good job on him until that point.”

“Offensively we played well at times but weren’t consistent enough against a good defensive front.”

“They made some plays. We didn’t get the ball down field like we wanted to. They were very patient, their safeties not allowing anyone behind them and keeping the play in front of them. After a few sacks we felt like we had to throw the ball more quickly.”

“We didn’t want Jerry (Babb) to get hit more than necessary.”

“They didn’t quit they played hard, and after all was said and done we were there. When we needed a big stop we didn’t get one and that’s what championship teams do.”

On early turnovers against North Texas…
“By the time we all came out of shock we were no longer able to execute our game plan.”

    On Troy…
“Troy brings in an awfully good football team. They are a great defensive football team. They have four seniors up front and they put a lot of pressure on your quarterbacks.”

“They are fifth in the nation against the run.”

“Their games have not been very high scoring.”

“Their running back has 800 or 900 yards and they switch their quarterbacks out. That freshman they have is really mobile.”

“Any time you play an athletic quarterback that is the guy who kind of breaks your back. That’s what our major concern is - not letting him have a career night.”

“They are really experienced and athletic. Our offense is going to have to accept the challenge and know that they will have to play better against a maybe better defense.”

“This is going to be a big game.”

On importance of ESPN 2 recognition…
“I think it was a very positive look on our university and our football program. I think they did a big plug for us.”

    On Motivation Against Troy…
“We are playing at home one more time and it’s senior day. This is the last time for most of them that they will dress out in a red Ragin’ Cajuns uniform.”

“It’s been important to me that the seniors go out on a good note. This is very important to them. These are the guys who have stuck it out three years with me.”

“I feel like we will have to find a way to run the ball better.”

“We’ve go to find a way to spring some guys open.”

On Ending Season with a winning record…
“It’s part of our growth and movement to improve things here. We are right there knocking at the door and have an opportunity to win more than we lost.”

“The thing that we have to do is allow our seniors to help us out. They can leave here with something we haven’t done in a while and that’s have a winning season.”

“I think people really enjoy watching our football team and being a part of our games.”

“Getting these last couple would be big for us.”

    On fan support…
“I want to thank the people who came to the game Friday night. I know it was an odd time and that there was high school football going on.”

“We appreciate our fans and students so much. Having more than 20,000 fans a game is great.”

“Hopefully people will come out one more weekend and watch us play.”

  3. UL Football Seniors hold the key to finish for Ragin' Cajuns

LOUISIANA La. — Rickey Bustle convinced his 2003 Ragin’ Cajuns that they had something worth fighting for after starting the season 0-7, so the chance to have the school’s first winning season since 1995 should be a motivational cakewalk.

Louisiana fell to 4-5 with last Friday’s 27-17 home loss to North Texas, the first Cajun Field setback of 2004 and UNT’s 23rd straight Sun Belt Conference triumph.

Now, in this week’s Senior Day home finale, the Cajuns will be facing the best defensive team in the league when Troy University hits town.

“We’ve got to rely on our seniors to help us, as we have in the past,” Bustle said. “We’re finishing the season against probably the three best defenses in the Sun Belt (including next week’s finale at UL Monroe), but the seniors have a chance to leave us with a winning season.

“Saturday will be the last time most of these guys are going to dress out for the Cajuns. I believe a lot in seniors.”

Bustle posted a 3-9 record in his first year at UL in 2002, then won four of his last five for a 4-8 mark last season. A winning mark would be a solid next step.

p.s.- y'all would have alot more friends here in Cajun Country if y'all would have actually pulled off a W at LSU

  8. UL Football logical thinking

Let's see, we beat FAU, which Beat North Texas which beat... YOU! We Beat Mizzou, which beat Baylor, which beat North Texas, which beat... YOU!

Craziness! Sunbelt is crazy. Trojans are crazy. Cajuns are crazy. We all be crazy! I really wish I could make it down to the game this year. Maybe next year when you come to Troy, we can all eat some gumbo and south alabama bar b q and go tip some cows over.

Oh and take back some home town officiating from LSWho and we would have beaten them. Amazing how mystery flags on illegal procedures come after the play scores a touchdown from SEC refs!

Your stadium looked good on TV. The professor in the mask and all doing the interview with Shera "Princess of Power" was a little creepy.

Good hit that one time on Jamario. I thought you might have put him out of the game on that one. If you wouldn't have spotted UNT those 14 points off the bat, it would have been an awesome game.

Oh yeah, our offense is terrible, but we don't need no stinkin' offense! We score with defense and Leodis! My Man! He Loves Us!

littlebittyschool, what's up, my favorite Troy fan. Wish you could make it down for the game. Cajuns are 7-1 all-time vs the Trojans,

    #1 offense vs #1 defense = Cajuns 8-1 all-time vs the Trojans
