  3. UL Football disrespect by Gainesvill, FL newspaper

"It's hard to believe that any team would have to convince itself that it was playing an excellent football team when that team is a DNC. But it's also understandable that Zook and his staff want to make sure their players understand that this isn't Louisiana-Lafayette coming in here.

    It's still the DNC.

LSU isn't a bad team, just a good team that has played some bad games."

The above is a quote from the following article from Gainesville Sun:

Why does everone know who we are?

Honestly, it does not surprise me that they disrespect us like that. They're SEC and we're SBC. Until we win the conference, and beat some good out of conference teams, we won't get the respect we want, which is not aproblem with me, cuz I want us to earn it. The way I see it, at least our name is mentioned, and people know who we are!

    Geaux UL Ragin Cajuns!

    God Bless.

I agree. It's nice to have any name recognition for now, although the Lafayette part of name may be sticking.

I do not like the sticking part

I agree, but people around the country are starting to recognize the name Louisiana-Lafayette. Right after the name change I remember the Cajuns being referred to as Louisiana on CBS during the NCAAs and also during the World Series. But now it is Louisiana Lafayette everywhere it seems. It may be more realistic to try and push University of Louisiana at Lafayette for now (sort of like Texas at Austin). Then later maybe the Lafayette part of name will start to drop. Unfortunately, I just don't think at present, or for a while, we are going to be referred to nationally as the University of Louisiana.

They could have made reference to Tulane, ULM, Tech, etc but didn't. Maybe we are fresh on the brain since we were at FIU last week.

Miamicajun32 makes alot of sense. I like UL much better than UL-Lafayette, or Louisiana-Lafayette. But what I like better than how they refer to us, is how we play. Like I said, once we get where we're supposed to be with football and basketball, I think our name preferences will come easier.

    God Bless.
