LOUISIANA La. -- University of Louisiana’s football team is proceeding with plans to play at Kansas State on Saturday, pending further developments with Hurricane Ivan.

“We have discussed it internally,” Athletic Director Nelson Schexnayder said. “Based on the information we have, we are proceeding with our original plans.”

The Cajuns’ charter flight leaves Lafayette at 11 a.m. Friday, and the team is scheduled to return immediately after the contest in Manhattan, Kansas, arriving in Lafayette at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

“If something changes, then we’ll alter our plans,” Schexnayder said. “We’ll speak again this afternoon and tomorrow as we get more information and better information about the storm.”

K-State freshmen could soon be initiated

MANHATTAN -- Kansas State's struggling offense had just left the field with a turnover during Saturday's loss to Fresno State when John Hafferty elbowed Gerard Spexarth, a fellow first-year freshman and offensive lineman.

"Dude," he told him, "we're going in."

That didn't actually happen, but it probably will this Saturday against Louisiana. And that's not just a blowout scenario coming into play, either.

The Wildcats would like to use Hafferty at left guard, Spexarth at left tackle and perhaps even Ryan Schmidt, another first-year freshman, at center because their future could be coming soon.

There aren't many starting positions safe anymore, and K-State coach Bill Snyder has already made numerous changes to the depth chart.

"It's it's time to give players who have been closing the gap an opportunity," Snyder said.

That certainly includes the 6-foot-3, 305-pound Hafferty. He's still behind Malcolm Wooldridge right now, but he spent some time in Monday night's practice working with the starting offensive line. It's almost certain he'll play against the Ragin' Cajuns.

"If I do get the opportunity, it would be my dream coming true to do that," said Hafferty, whose father was a starting center for K-State in the late 1970s. "It would mean more to me than you could ever know."

LOUISIANA La. — UL’s football coaching staff has announced its individual honors and Hooters/ Credeur’s Awards for game performances from Saturday’s contest against La. Tech.

Senior wide receiver Bill Sampy was named Hooters/ Credeur’s Offensive Player of the Week. Sampy caught eight passes for 107 yards. One of his catches was a 59-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jerry Babb that put the Cajuns back in the game.

Senior defensive back Antwain Spann was named the Defensive Player of the Game. Spann had 10 tackles and broke up two passes. He also returned a blocked kick 57 yards to set up a field goal that put the Cajuns in the lead.

It seems some are down on our running game and while I agree that it has not been nothing great, it has not been that bad either considering the few chances given so far.

Adule is a stud, hope he gets a lot more carries in the near future.

Plus, you forgot about one of the most critical components of our running game...Jerry Babb. Maybe his yards per carry aren't as high, but could that be because sacks could as negative yardage?

I agree, I would like to see Levier get more carries but Lindon and Johnson have not done too bad either. Hopefully Levier will get more comfortable with the offense, stay healthy, and see more playing time.
I left Babb off on purpose because I was trying to point out that our running backs are not doing too bad considering the amount of carries they have gotten so far. Babb's totals are not a good indication of how good a running QB he is because of the subtraction of sack yardage you mentioned. Through 2 games:
