Goalline stand is highlight
LOUISIANA La. — The nose of the ball sat an inch or two away from the end zone.
It was fourth and goal towards the end of Saturday’s UL Lafayette scrimmage at Cajun Field, and it was time to see which unit had more strength.
The winner in that head-to-head matchup was the defense, as senior middle linebacker Stanley Smith led a charge that stuffed running back Abdule Levier for no gain.
“The defense stiffened up at the goal line,” coach Rickey Bustle said. “You’ve got to develop an attitude on both sides of the ball — the offense says we’re going to get in, and the defense says you won’t.
“One way or the other, the Cajuns were going to win that one.”
