LOUISIANA La. — Chemistry doesn’t come in a day, or a week, for that matter.
One day into fall drills, Louisiana is far from the cohesive squad the Cajuns hope to be when they take the field for the Sept. 4 opener against Northwestern State at Cajun Field.
And judging from last year’s team, which won four of its last five games, chemistry sometimes takes even longer to develop.
“Cohesion is something that’s hard to do in the summer,” Cajun coach Rickey Bustle said after Monday’s practice. “Some of the players were here, some were here a lot and some were at home. Chemistry is something we hope to develop over these next few weeks.”
To speed that process along, Bustle and the team held a meeting on Sunday night to get practice off on a positive note.
“We don’t want to have things bother us without talking about them,” Bustle said. “We wanted to talk some things over, and be ready to get out here today. We want to do all we can to try to make this a special year.”

Jessie Newman "67" looked to be in very good shape, strong as an OX.
Simulated running plays right off the bat.
It was super nice to see Greg Hodges "62" back and in great shape.
Here he is working the new crescent shaped blocking apparatus that simulates where the Defensive Linemen will be after initial contact; it is designed to help the lineman get into position as smooth and quickly as possible so as to maintain the upper hand in leverage.
I just wanted to know if any of these guys were just missing from the media guide or if they are no longer part of the team. I don't neeed an explaination.
Very surprising about Prater, can anyone confirm that he quit?
Jon thanks for the pics. I was there yesterday and I thought the lineman look good for their first day. Thanks especially for the pic of Zach Leger. He is my son and this pic is now a background on my computer. Looking forward to the season. Geaux Cajuns!!!
David did leave after the first team workout in mid-July. I was hoping he would report Sunday, but he didn't. He was not in trouble, just some personal issues to deal with.
