    Should hear whether Ovens will be eligible and sign in the next few days.

    Not surprised. His comments always sounded like he wanted to be a pro instead of improving in college.

    For what it's worth, found this on the Indians Insider:

    @jimcallisBA

    #Indians sign 23rd-rd LHP Tony Dischler for $250,000. Fastball is 91-94 mph, hit 97 in fall, won D-II juco title at LSU-Eunice.

    Oh well.

    GEAUX CAJUNS!!

    Yes, Jim is usually able to track down all of the signing numbers through his various MLB contacts. He actually updated that number to $255K after his initial tweet. Dischler declined to share that info with me, which to be honest isn't a big deal.

  5. UL Baseball UL signee Dischler pitching for Indians

    The next time UL baseball signee Tony Dischler pitches will be in the pro ranks.

    Dischler agreed to terms Friday with the Cleveland Indians, who selected the rising junior right-hander in the 23rd round of June's Major League Baseball first-year player draft.

    The former Rayne High School and LSU Eunice standout had until Monday to sign with the Indians.

    UL Baseball Re: Tony Dischler Out Before He Is In

    Congratulations to Dischler & his family, We could have used him next year, but it's good to see us picking up quality prospects. All schools loose players to the draft, Coach Robe does a great job of developing young pitchers it's just part of college baseball. We have some talent returning to the mound next year. Hopefully others will step up, as they usually do in Tony's system.

    Can't blame the kid. Make hay while the sun shines. This just opens a spot for another player hopefully a pitcher.

    Coach Robe says he tries to sign only one or two guys a year with immediate draft prospects. That helps limit how much the program can be hurt in the draft (look at LSU in recent years for the other end of the spectrum).
