Thread: 2011 Cajun Baseball Team

  1. #1

    Default 2011 Cajun Baseball Team

Never to early to start thinking about this. Just listing who could end up where, not really picking their spots yet. The (R) means they are an incoming recruit.

    Starting weekend pitchers:

    Joey Satriano
    Michael Cook
    TJ Geith
    Jordan Nicholson
    Tony Dischler (R)
    Dayton Marze

    Rest of the pitchers:

    Dustin Ardoin
    Randall Buillard
    Colton Daigle
    Manning Duhon
    Michael Faul
    Thad Griffen
    Garrett Larson
    Daniel Nichols
    Rylan Parker
    Chase Traffica
    Blake Wascom
    Kyle Neely (R)
    Caleb Kellogg (R)
    Matt Hicks (R)

    Middle Infield:
    Greg Fontenot
    Jordan Porrier
    Jordan Bourque (R)

    Corner Infield:
    Trask Switzenberg
    Dillon Guillory
    Tyler Frederick

    Catchers:
    Adam Todd
    Mike Strentz (R)

    Outfield:
    Brian Bowman
    Alex Fuselier
    Matt Goulas
    Lance Marvel
    Alex Spikes
    Dominic Francia (R)

    Others:
    Chase Compton (R)
    Ryan Leonards (R)

    Questions for next season:

Looks like our biggest hole to fill is first base. Can Strentz play first?

We Adam Todd step up behind the plate?

Who will start in center field? Bowman, Spikes, or Francia?

Where will T-Fred end up? Will Jordan Bourque be ready to play second and will T-Fred stay at third?

Looks like we have the potential for a 5 man rotation. Which three will step up for the weekend rotation? Will it be Geith, Satriano, and Dischler?

Bowman needs to learn how to hit right handed pitchers if he wants to start. The Francia kid is supposed to be a really good athlete, high school cornerback.

Michael Strentz is supposed to be a really good player so I'm not sure Adam Todd has that spot to himself yet. I think Tyler Frederick may be better suited at 2nd base, but Poirrier will be back.

I've heard Satriano has a good chance of being our Friday guy. Is Dischler makes it on campus, he will end up on the weekend. I see Geith staying on Saturdays.

We badly need a catcher, 1st baseman, and 3rd basemen to step up. We seem very weak in these areas. The only guy with quality experience is Tyler Fredrick and he struggled at the end of the season.

Trask would be a great target @ 1st. 6'3" good glove. Dillon showed good strides at first with his glove. Both need to improve on there offense, I'm not calling anyone out here. Most of our players will be playing summer ball somewhere with wood, that should improve there skills along with another year older and stronger. My biggest concern is catcher, I see Marvel as our leading guy, Adam Todd will be very good (in time), great size, very good arm, not sure about his bat & handling a pitching staff yet. Not many true Fr. will catch D1 pitching, but he will be a good one. Were going to need Poirrier's bat, I know he might get drafted but I'd love to see him in a Cajun uniform. I like Greg at SS he has flat out earned it with his Offense & Defense. T Fred was brought in as a future SS / 2nd basemen, has done a pretty good job at 3rd both offensively & defensibly, he'll get stronger with time, I love the way he plays, he just looks like he going to be a quality player for a few more years. I think the outfield we'll be fine: Fuselier, Bowman, Nichols, Goulas plus the new kids coming in. I'm going to repeat myself , I love this Coaching staff.

Bourque played third base this past season at LSU Eunice and can also play the middle infield.

well Todd will be a sophmore not a true freshman. My opinion is we need to rerecruit at a few positions...i just think we need more gap type power in the lineup. Hopefully Switzenburg and Marvel can improve over the summer and contribute next season. If Dayton descides to stay, and with the addition of Nicholson,Larsen, and most likely Dishler, next years staff could potentially be deeper than it was this year.

Daniel Nichols is actually an outfielder, not a pitcher. He requested and received a medical redshirt this season due to a knee injury. He has two years left to play. Put up big numbers in 2009 at Wabash Valley College (.394, 21 doubles, 17 HRs, 79 RBIs).

Strentz and Leonards were signed as athletes, could end up at a number of positions. Nicholson and Hubbell will challenge for rotation spots. Griffen will move back to catcher this fall, so he will share that duty.

Compton will have an opportunity to DH and play first base. Bourque will be given a shot at 2nd, with Porrier possibly moving over to DH. Fredrick was solid at 3B, don't look for him to move anytime soon. Hunter Ovens and Nichols will also be part of the outfield; But Ovens could be considered for a move because he has a corner bat. Fall ball will be very interesting, because some seniors may have to move to other positions.
