BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Louisiana's commissioner of higher
education has resigned.
Sally Clausen's resignation will take effect July 1. The Board
of Regents announced her departure Tuesday.
The resignation comes after Clausen quietly retired from her
position and then was rehired for the job last year, without
notifying the board or other officials. She has received sharp
criticism for the move, which gave her a hefty lump-sum payment of
$90,000 in the process.
Clausen is Louisiana's sixth higher education commissioner.
She's been in the job since July 2008, after working as president
of the University of Louisiana System and President of Southeastern
Louisiana University.
