    UL Football 2004 Recruiting Class

Any thoughts on our new recruiting class? Who do you guys think have a chance to contribute next year? Who do you guys think will be corner stone type guys in the future? I think Caleb Rubin has a chance to be a good back in the future, and I also think Desormeaux is going to push Jerry for playing time in 2005. Can't wait to see Jordan Jackson and Abule Levier take the field this year. Any one know if Devin Williams (QB from last years class) is still on the team, and if so does he factor into playing time?

My prediction for 2004 is 6-6 Sun Belt Conference Champions.

I think we only play 11 games next season. Hopefully 12 when we go to the New Orleans Bowl.

    Default My thoughts exactly

that's what I meant 6-6 with the new orleans bowl which we will loose.

I am also anxious to watch Caleb Rubin run the ball, along with Abule LeVier and Jordan Jackson catch the ball. I just wish Devin Williams could could get some playing in with some other good 2004 recruits.

    For "entertainment purposes only" :<))

Everyone has their own idea of how good a class we had; and quite frankly we won't know until they get on the field. That said, I looked at Rivals just to see how they "ranked" this year's classes. Below I put some SBC teams that were listed, as well as some of our regional universitys. Here is what the rankings were:

    School Rivals Rank Points
    Tulane 60 255
    Houston 65 186
    S. Miss 67 166
    Utah St. 69 155
    N. Texas 72 120
    Troy St. 73 119
    MTSU 82 84
    Ark St. 87 65
    La Tech 87 65
    Cajuns 97 60
    ULM 101 60 (really tied at 97)
    NMSU 110 48
    Rice 111 42
    McNeese 119 9

Has anyone looked at other services to see how these numbers stack up?

NO! and to quote coach bustle,..........."I don't look at that because it means nothing."
you should also realize it's really the coaches 2nd full year to recruit for a team that has been down in numbers (big time). take heart, we are doing fine.

Don't doubt we're doing fine. Like I said, "for entertainment purposes only". Just wondering if other services see it the same as Rivals. I don't often visit those sites; and certainly won't pay to get their opinion. At this point its just for fun.

I think Coach is going to get the best out of every player he recruits. That doesn't mean that the kid is going to play on Sundays one day. It simply means that he is the right guy to rebuild this program and he is going to get the best out of what he has.

I can't figure out a good place to post this inquiry so I'm dropping it right here.

Swamp, Guru, Turb, anybody - what's the story on Booker Jenkins, apparently a fullback signee.

Also, how does Travis Smothers look at WR in the preseason practices? Watched him catch a ball or two on the replay of the NMSU game last night.

Here's a Booker Jenkins link. I like him, he is a load though less of one since coming to UL at 270. Don't quote me but I think Bustle wants him around 250.

If he can block catch and run like I saw him do in practice he will be huge for Louisiana this season.

To those who maintain an interest in the subject - former UL signees Bobby Rose (albeit a nonqualifer and never in the program) and DeShawn Jones are on Southern's roster this season. Jones is listed as a 6'5" 295lb DE.
