Vermilion Parish will feel the economic impact of no deep water drilling in the Gulf of Mexico for six months as ordered by President Obama.
The Louisiana Department of Economic Development estimates the no drilling rule cost the state 3,000 to 6,000 jobs in the month and up to 20,000 jobs over the year.
Since the 1950s, oil has been a big part of Vermilion Parish, employing thousands from the parish.
Everyone from Young’s Grocery Store in Intracoastal City to the little mom and pop business in Abbeville will be affected by the no drilling moratorium.
