    UL Basketball Talent

Marty Fletcher was here for a while and has placed 10 players in the Thousand Point club:

    Kevin Brooks
    Chris Manual
    Reginald Poole
    Michael Allen
    Byron Starks
    Sydney Grider
    Aaron Mitchell
    Todd Hill
    Tony Moore
    Marcus Stokes

Jessie Evans was here for a few years and placed several himself

    Anthony Johnson
    Blaine Harmon
    Brad Boyd
    Lonnie Thomas

Robert Lee has been here for a 6 years and has placed NONE yet...

Talent-theres something to be said for it-Lee helped recruit Harmon and Thomas, but ultimately they are on Evan's clock.

2 Cajuns are on pace to eclipse the 1000 point mark at the end of their senior year-Grandigo & Bureau-Daigle will be close if production continues and injuries don't get in the way.

This team is way under acheiving-and its visible to the naked eye-new leadership is needed.

IMHO, one of the reasons for this phenomenon (and for the miserable record) is that they never seem to have a normal 6-8 player rotation. They are constantly changing the lineup which affects the cohesiveness of this team. Jesse normally have a core of about 7 players (sometimes that was all that were available:) that would and could play together and compliment each other’s skills. Robert seems to coach like a pickup game where players are selected at random in no specific order and with no respect to chemistry and teamwork.

Maybe I am off completely, but that is my opinion after watching many years of Cajun basketball.

Lee had Dwayne Mitchell (2 years Lee, 1 Evans) that scored 1,000pts and Michael Southall which played 1 under Lee.

Mitchell and Southall joined the 1,000 point club under Lee, Mitchell played two out of three years under Lee and Southall two out of three under evans.

Gradnigo, Daigle, and Bureau are all on pace to score 1,000 in their career even though they could be scoring alot more in a better system with a better coach.

I agree on the 7 man rotation, Starters should be Mccoy, Bureau, Gradnigo, Johnson, and Wallace with Daigle as the spark off the bench and Roberson seeing alot of minutes too. With Wallace's injury Mitchell or Batisite should be in just long enough to provide some size while Johnson takes a breather, besides that go with the other six. This is based totally on talent and not effort shown thus far.

I have always been fond of coach Lee and supported him even through last year but with what I've seen so far this season I think he needs to be gone ASAP.

It is a shame it took the APR scare to stop Lee from running off players or he might not have the 3 he is about to get. (jmo)

I figure he probably regrets saying it but I was devastated to watch a practice (at Blackham) in his 2nd year where Lee was using (as a looming threat) players departure from the team as a motivating tool and openly inviting players to leave the team.

That was Jessie's recruit, Dwayne sat out 1 year under Jessie after Auburn transfer, played 1 under Jessie and played 2 under Robert-he is still Jessie's player just like Marty had Regigie Poole and Chris Manual-too me those are Marty's kids but eclipsed 1000 under Jessie, and played 1 or 2 under him.

Southall and Mitchell fall under Jessie for me, not Robert.

    Default 1,000 Point Club

EP reached the 1000 point club last night. Here are some interesting observations. If Elfrid averages just 15ppg and plays the minimum number of scheduled games for the remainder of this year and his senior season (48) he would finish with approximately 1,720 career points.

(EP currently averages 19 ppg and we would likely play more games than 48)

That would place him 6th on the All Time list in between Jerry Flake and Graylin Warner.

Shawn Long only has to average 14.8 ppg for the rest of the year to join the 1,000 point club as a sophmore.

From my quick review only Bo Lamar, Andrew Toney, Kevin Brooks, Jerry Flake, Roy Ebron, Sydney Grider, and Elvin Ivory joined the 1000 point club in their first two years.

If Shawn Long maintains his career average of 17.2 (he averaged 15 as a freshman and approx. 19 this year) and plays only the minimum number of scheduled games (18 + 30 + 30 (no post season).

He will finish with 2,133 career points. That is good enough for 4th all time. He would be behind only Bo, Toney and Kevin Brooks. And, he would likely pass Kevin Brooks with post season games.

For the youngsters, Bo Lamar had two 1,000 point seasons.

Shaw Long is currently averaging 21.5 points a game, i just have a hard time seeing him under 20 ppg for the year. He will dominate the sun belt as long as he stays out of foul trouble.

Fun Fact: shawn is currently 17th in the country in scoring and 4th in rebounding

Think either or both play their senior year for us.

  12. UL Basketball Re: 1,000 Point Club

    Both.

  13. Default Re: 1,000 Point Club

I think they both are making mistakes if they don't.

Elfrid is good, really good, but very young. He was a 17 year old Freshman, he needs to improve in some areas before making the jump.

Shawn is a center in NCAA, he will be lucky to play the 3 at the next level.

both can be good, but both need at least an extra year of College ball. Elfrid has a better shot than Shawn of leaving early.

I think both will likely play senior seaons. I'm not sure that Shawn has the body or athleticsm to leave early. And, I think Elfrid will return because the 2014 draft is very very deep.

With that being said, if we went on some crazy Sweet 16 run, then that could change.

Just thinking about last night--2 pretty dangerous spills by EP and Wronk---kind of had their legs cut out!!! In my B-ball search for football players I am thinking Wronk at Free safety and Brown somewhere!!! Of course coach Rod has an OL opening for JJ whenever he wants!!!!
