LOUISIANA La. — It’s easy to find Brian Hamilton on the basketball court.
He’s the one who’s usually around the ball, whether it’s grabbing a rebound or diving for a loose ball or sinking a key basket.
The 6-foot-6 UL Lafayette junior is the Player of the Week in the Sun Belt Conference after another typically active weekend for the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Hamilton had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Cajuns to a 110-102 win over Western Kentucky last Thursday, snapping WKU’s 29-game home win streak in Sun Belt games.
He followed that up with another solid effort in the Cajuns’ 74-64 victory at Middle Tennessee as UL completed a difficult weekend sweep and increased its season-long winning streak to five games.
“I’m just trying to step up every game,” said Hamilton, who averaged 16 points and 8.5 rebounds last week. “We’re trying not to lose any more games.”
“Brian has been honored, and deservedly so,” coach Jessie Evans said. “It’s nice for him to be recognized. He’s an integral part of our program.”
Hamilton, who is third on the team in scoring with an 11.9-point average and the team leader in rebounds at 7.3, also has 32 steals and 35 assists. He has done all this in his first year with the program despite being undersized for the front line.
“Brian has been playing out of position for us,” Evans said. “As Chris Cameron and Cedric Williams progress, we’ll be able to put him at his more natural position on the perimeter.”
