MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Alabama Gov. Bob Riley is angry about U.S.
Coast Guard decisions he says have left parts of the northern Gulf
Coast vulnerable to pollution from the Gulf oil spill.
Riley says the Coast Guard wrongly decided to remove oil
barriers from the Alabama and Mississippi coasts and take them to
Louisiana when oil began hitting that state.
Speaking in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday,
Riley says the Coast Guard decision means Alabama and Mississippi
are now more vulnerable to the oil that's beginning to hit their
coasts.
Riley says the Coast Guard has a new protection plan for
Alabama, but it's not as good as the original one. Riley says areas
including Mobile Bay are now virtually unprotected from oil.
