The man accused of killing Krotz Springs-native Davina Chapman last summer is back behind bars. John Snyder was released on bond back in March, but was re-arrested over the weekend in Gonzales. According to Sheriff Jeff Wiley, Snyder rear-ended a deputies car then drove off. He was arrested about a half-a-mile away where he was charged with hit and run driving, DWI (2nd offense), improper lane usage and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle.
"Knowing John Snyder, no I was not surprised at all," said Chapman's longtime friend Phyllis Siccard.
Snyder's arrest was welcomed news to Chapman's family and friends in Krotz Springs, who were stunned when he was released from jail in the first place.
"Thats where he should have stayed, they should have never let him out," said Davina's mom Dolores Sanders.
Snyder posted bond in both Pointe Coupee and St. Landry Parishes on March 25th. He faces a kidnapping charge in St. Landry Parish and a murder charge in Pointe Coupee Parish, both in connection with Chapman's death. Although he was being monitored with an ankle bracelet, and was only supposed to leave home for work and court appointments, Sheriff Wiley says at the time of his arrest Snyder had beer tickets on him from the Jambalaya Festival in Gonzales.
Officials in Pointe Coupee and St. Landry Parishes have been notified of Snyder's apparent violation of the terms of his release. He's expected to go to trial this summer.
