Thread: Your Conference Choice for UL

Situations change every year. What we need to do now is just keep getting better. Our potential is great and as our team improves & Gerald Hebert leads facility and infrastructure improvements, we position ourselves to take advantage of the opportunity when it comes a knock'in. If we don't plan and achieve goals, we will still be at the same place in 5 years.....looking in from the outside. Don't be afraid to set your goals high. Jake never gave up. It took a while, but greatness was achieved.

  4. Default C-USA Baby!

I would say C-USA for the following reasons:

    Perceived step up
Emphasis on perceived. I got bored last week, moved the schools into their 2005 conferences and ran averages. C-USA took a huge hit in average football & basketball ratings. However, people hear "C-USA" and they thing "the big little guys". As Dr. Phil says, perception is reality.

    Regional Foes
Games featuring Houston, Rice, Southern Miss and Tulane would guarantee a season average of nearly 20,000 in football. Basketball would probably jump by at least 1,000/game as well. Baseball would be sold out most conference games.

    Next Realignment
When the Big East finally does split FB/BB, the Eastern/Northern C-USA schools are gone. That leaves a SouthCentral conference that will be fleshed out with even more regional players.

    Likely 2010 C-USA
    -----------------
    Southern Miss
    Tulane
    Houston
    UAB
    Rice
    SMU
    Tulsa
Central Florida (might me USF travel partner in BE)
    Louisiana
    North Texas
    Louisiana Tech
    Pick Two Others...

So, there are my reasons to push for C-USA.

Lets skip all that in between stuff and get to the Big XII now! Baylor can have our spot in CUSA, after all they would fit right in there.

As now constituted, I prefer the Sunbelt. Eventually, a regional conference with large public universities would be more to my liking (UH, USM, UAB, UNT, UL, Memphis, FAU, FIU). I don't like CUSA: too many private schools with different objectives than our own.

If I'm dreaming, I'll take the Big XII. Replace Baylor with us; all public, all large schools, built in automatic respect.

from the board that shares space with LSU "For what it's worth.....Compared to the 11 shools that would make up the CUSA next year...cajuns would be #4 of 12 (assuming we were the 12th). Only UAB (36), Memphis (40) & Rice (43) currently are better than UL's 66"
