Parrott posted in another thread that he was booked at the Days Inn Crossroads. Its north of the University but its pretty good price at around $45-50 a night.

I'm booked at the Hilton Garden Inn Downtown. I'd rather be closer downtown. If you book through www.travelocity.com you can get the third night free which with tax puts it around $320 for the trip (3 nights.)

www.hotwire.com is what I always use to book Austin hotels. You can sort by area and # of stars. Only downside, you find out where after you book, and there are no refunds.

I almost always go the Priceline name your own price route. We usually get a hotel (Marriott Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express or similar) somewhere around $60 plus tax. Of course, we don't know until our price is accepted where we will end up staying.

It doesn't apply here, but we've usually gotten really good deals in New Orleans (4-star type hotels) for the same price when we use Priceline.

For those who haven't been to Austin before, you should make it a point to go to the Oasis over Lake Travis. In fact, that would be a great place to have a Ragin Cajun get together on Friday night or Saturday night (before sunset). The view is spectacular and a must see when in Austin. If there is still a UL Alumni Chapter in Austin, I would suggest possibly organizing something along those lines. Friday would likely work better after UL's afternoon game as Saturday could either have a conflicting game or UL could be out of the tournament.

Another good place to visit (also on the lake with a great view) that has better food than the Oasis is The Iguana Grill on Hwy. 620 ... though I also like the Oasis as it has improved (the food had been horrible for quite some time). The drinks are very good at the Oasis, but with the windy hilly roads, you had better take it easy.

If folks would like to spend some time in this part of Austin (it is beautiful and is why I live in this part of Austin), you can book a stay at ...

The Lakeway Resort and Spa ... http://www.dolce-lakeway-hotel.com/p...ew/history.asp

    or ...

    The Mountain Star Lodge. http://www.mountainstarlodge.com/

Obviously these are pricier, but you will win points with the wife and family.

You're right, the Oasis doesn't have the best food, but it has the best view. The Iguana Grill also has a nice view and better food, but it is small and a totally different venue. Although usually very crowded and a huge decked facility over looking the lake, IMO, if you've never been to that part of Austin before, go to the Oasis for the experience first. I used to live in Lakeway, as I see you do, although I've been back in Houston for 7 years now. My wife and I always make a stop at the Oasis when in Austin just for a Lake Travis fix. It just doesn't get much better than up in the hills around Lake Travis.

Anyone know where the team is staying?

When we went for the football game in 2005, we stayed at the Sheraton Austin Hotel. It was a Marriott at the time, though. Really nice. A bit pricey. But it's just off of I-35 and its only 5 blocks from the bars.
